Budd Passenger Rail Car STL 3D Print Model

The Budd passenger rail car is a classic mid-20th century streamlined stainless steel coach, characteristic of long-distance American passenger train services. The model features highly detailed corrugated fluting along the carbody, two Commonwealth-style bogies with detailed brake rigging, end vestibules with diaphragm frames, roof-mounted vents, and underframe equipment boxes. Two body variants are included: a standard windowed coach and a lights/windows panel version for rendering or lighting effects. Supplied as STL files ready for 3D printing or use in simulation and diorama projects.

Print settings

FDM printing is recommended for the main carbody at 0.1–0.15 mm layer height to capture the fine fluting detail; resin printing is preferred for the bogies and coupler assemblies. Print the carbody horizontally (roof up) to minimise visible layer lines on the sides. Use supports under the bogie frames, underframe boxes, and end vestibule overhangs. Suggested infill 20–30% with PLA or PETG; paint with a metallic silver primer to replicate the stainless steel finish.
