Description
The railroad covered hopper car is a detailed 3D printable model of a classic North American bulk freight wagon used to transport grain, cement, and other dry commodities. The model features accurately reproduced triangular discharge hoppers, end platforms with ladders, brake wheel assembly, and detailed bogies with wheels and couplers. Two versions are included: a standard exterior model and a windowed/lights variant showing interior hopper geometry. Supplied as STL files ready for FDM or resin printing, ideal for model railroad layouts, dioramas, and scale display.
Print settings
FDM printing is recommended for the main car body using PLA or PETG at 0.15–0.20 mm layer height with the car oriented horizontally on its side to minimize supports on the large flat panels. The underframe hopper chutes and end platform details will require light supports; resin printing is advised for the fine bogie and brake wheel components. Infill of 15–20% is sufficient for display purposes. Print the bogies and ladders separately for best detail resolution.
